This is the first bowl I made on the wheel. It is a medium size and has a really smooth and classic surface. The top of the bowl and the top of the inside of the bowl is flawed and a little runny which I think adds to the relaxed mood. New skills I had to learn in order to make this project were dip glazing which turned out really well and pin tooling the top to make it not lopsided. An art element I used is lines with the black glaze and the clear glaze against the yellowish color of the fired clay and in the rim of the bowl. A design element I used was the emphasis of the top of the bowl with the black glaze on the outside and the clear glaze on the inside of the bowl. The classic look of the bowl and the imperfect glaze on the rim adds to the comfortable and relaxed mood of the bowl while the black clay emphasizes the contrast of the piece.
